Delhi BJP today demanded amnesty for all illegal constructions existing in the city till June this year and asked the Centre to change the Master Plan to give them permanent legal status.
"Why is the government extending the amnesty scheme every year? Why is the government leaving the sword hanging over heads of those who have done illegal construction after 8, February 2007.
"If they can accommodate the illegal constructions till February, why can't they cover all the constructions done till June 2013," Delhi BJP Chief Vijay Goel told reporters.
Instead of extending every year, the Urban Development Ministry should change the Master Plan Delhi 2021 to accommodate these constructions, he said.
The Union government had cleared a special legislation in 2006 offering amnesty to thousands of illegal constructions that were in line to be sealed or razed in Delhi.
The Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act was passed by Parliament in May 2006, and has been extended several times since - with the latest extension valid till December 31, 2014.
Goel said such extensions give rise to corrupt practises and also cause problem in identifying the exact date of construction for the Junior or Assistant Engineers who go for demolitions.
"We will ask the Municipal Corporations to write to Urban Development Ministry demanding inclusion of all illegal properties and constructions done till June this year under the amnesty scheme," Goel said.
The Delhi BJP President also asked the Municipal Corporations to reduce the rate of tax on the properties having an area of 100 yards.
"We have requested the Municipal Corporations to reduce these taxes as it was hurting businessmen," Goel said.
