Bengal gram is a major rabi pulse grown in the country and sowing will be taken up in October-November with the harvest slated in January-February, TNAU's Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre said in its analysis.
At present, Bengal gram is sold at Rs.5,000 to Rs.5,500 per quintal.
In Tamil Nadu, it was cultivated in 8,908 hectares with production of 5,823 tonnes during 2013-14. Nearly 75 per cent of the area was occupied by Desi (black) gram and the remaining under Kabuli (white).
