The facility, a collaborative initiative between Tihar administration and Pearl Academy was inaugurated today at Jail number 6 (women's jail) of Tihar prison complex.
"It is a unique initiative to promote skill development among inmates. It will help the women inmates to learn life sustaining skills and will provide them with great opportunities to earn a livelihood after being released from prison," said Sudhir Yadav, DG Prisons.
The course capsule will last for 45 days. It will be divided into three core modules, said a Pearl Academy spokesperson.
The academy, a leading institution for design, fashion and creative busines, will conduct 3 such capsule courses in one academic year and each batch will comprise 22 inmates, said the spokesperson.
The inmates who will complete the course will also be helped in placements.
The Fashion Lab is equipped with all the facilities and machinery needed for learning basics of design and construction skills, she said.
"We are happy to be a part of Skill India Mission and also in our small way, trying our best to contribute to the society by empowering these women to help them rebuild their lives," she added.
