The incident took place on Monday around 7.30 pm at the Titwala Boat Club, police said adding that five others in the boat were, however, rescued.
The bodies of the two victims- Narayandas Matreja (42) and his son Ajay were later fished out.
Members of two families from Ulhasnagar- the Lullas and Matrejas - visited the Titwala temple and then went for a boat ride at the club Monday evening.
Inspector Suresh Patil of Titwala police said that a case would be registered against those responsible.
