"There is no cause for panic. As the generator transformer was old one, the damage on account of the fire is marginal," Nalco's executive director (Smelter & Power), said in a statement.
The fire broke out in the old generator transformer of Unit-8 of captive power plant (CPP) of Nalco, Angul at around 1.15 pm due to internal short circuit problem, the statement said adding that the inferno was controlled immediately by the fire extinguishing team.
The power situation was normalised immediately by starting the stand-by unit and there had been no injury to any person, they said.
Regarding the impact on production of Nalco, an official claimed there was no production loss on account of the fire.
About 8 to 10 fire engines of NALCO's own fire fighting service were pressed into service to tame the blaze.
