Five bills tabled in Assembly

Karnataka government tabled five bills in the Assembly today including the one to amend certain laws to alter the name of the city of Bangalore and few other places in the state.
The Revenue Department had altered the names of twelve places of Karnataka vide notification dated 31 October 2014 and a no-objection from the central government for this alteration was obtained, but still the names of places remained unaltered in various laws in force in Karnataka.
With an intention to amend such laws and for construing, validation and savings of the altered names of certain places, The Karnataka Alteration of Names of Certain Places Bill, 2016 was introduced today.
The existing and altered names of the place are Bangalore to Bengaluru, Mangalore to Mangaluru, Bellary to Ballari, Bijapur to Vijayapura, Belagaum to Belagavi, Chikmagalur to Chikkamagaluru, Gulbarga to Kalburgi, Mysore to Mysuru, Hospet to Hosapeta, Shimoga to Shivamogga, Hubli to Hubballi and Tumkur to Tumakuru.
Among the other bills tabled today include Karnataka Ayuevedic, Naturopathy, Siddha, Unani and Yoga Practitioners Registration and Medical Practitioners Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Bill 2016 to amend the act of 1961 and provide for the provisional registration of Ayush practitioners, issue of duplicate identity card, supplementary registration and incorporation of higher qualification in the register.
The Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to amend the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority Act 1985 to change the nomenclature of the some posts of authorities representing the authority in the interest of administration was also introduced.
The Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to amend the act of 2000 to rename the "Karnataka State Women University" as "Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women University" in the honor of 12th centenary Kannada saint poet Akkamahadevi who also fought for women's rights.
Also tabled today is The Karnataka State Civil Services (Regulation of Transfer and Postings of Forest Officers and Other Officials) Bill 2016 aimed at regulating transfer and posting of Deputy Range Forest Officers, Forest Guards and Forest Watchers of Forest Department to provide equal opportunity to lower level field staff in selecting place of their choice during transfers and improve administrative efficiency and discipline in the staff.
There is no extra expenditure involved in any of the five legislative measure proposed today.
