Dr Krishnakumar, IFGTB Director said about 2.9 per cent of global area was endowed with flora and fauna and 8.5 per cent of global animals, 7.5 per cent global reptiles and 11.62 per cent of global fish were fast disappearing due to man-induced disasters.
Addressing the World Environment Day celebrations at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here,he also cautioned that the country's precious elephant and tiger reserves were becoming highly endangered.
Poaching, hunting and intensive fishing has become highly menacing, which are to be contained by adopting robust strategies like increasing green cover and reduction of man-animal conflict and bringing a symbiotic relationship between environment and humans,Krishnakumar said.
