315 LPG cylinders seized in crackdown

Delhi government today seized 315 LPG cylinders from various premises during a massive raid conducted to check unauthorised sale of the cylinders and unauthorised filling of LPG in cylinders in the city.
Altogether, 34 FIRs were registered under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, against the violators during the raid conducted by 53 of the Department of Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs at 162 premises so far.
"The raids are going on and will continue till late night. In 34 premises, illegal LPG cylinders, and illegal filling of LPG from big to small cylinders has been detected. One such premise has been sealed," a statement issued by Delhi government said.

If convicted, the violators may face imprisonment up to seven years.
The department had received information that a number of premises in the city are indulging in illegal filling of LPG from bigger cylinders into non-standardised small cylinders and selling such cylinders.
Areas where raids were conducted and violations have been found include Kishanganj, Sadar Bazar, Regarpura, Mahipalpur, Kapashehara, Dabri, Uttam Nagar, Dakshinpuri, Govindpuri, Nangloi, Sarojini Nagar, Azadpur, Wazirpur, Shakur Basti, Burari, Rithala, Sultanpur and Jwala Nagar among others.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Control Order, 2000, issued under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, bans unauthorised possession, supply and consumption of LPG, as well as unauthorised storage and transport of LPG.

There is also ban on sale and distribution of LPG cylinders below or in excess of the standard weight.
