The Misamari Army base used the drone to find out the probable location of the tiger which was missing after its pug mark was found at Kolibari Tapu last night, chief Conservator of Forest, Northern Range, P Shiv Kumar told PTI.
On the request of the Forest Department, the drone was sent from Misamari and some images and a video was received through it about the location of the tiger along with some other animals, Kumar said.
The Drone can cover a distance of about 10 km from Misamari to Kolibari Tapu and Lawkhowa, he added.
The tiger on Monday killed a woman and injured another person at separate places of Dolabari, around 8km from Tezpur town, he said.
Conversation was also on between the Defence Ministry and Assam Forest Department for permission to fly drones in Kaziranga National Park in some specific areas to find out animal routes there, the official said.
"This is the first time in the Northeast that drone is being used for detecting location of wild animals and we will try to continue use of this after discussions with the ministry of defence", Kumar said.
