A popular broadcaster and daughter-in-law of a famous Kashmiri poet Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor today joined opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) here.
Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor, who worked as a broadcaster with BBC in London, announced her decision to join the party at a press conference here.
Welcoming Nayeema into the party fold, PDP chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said there is a new wave of professionals entering politics in the country.
"Politics is the foundation of a country and I am happy that there is a new wave of professionals entering politics," Sayeed said.
Apparently referring to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sayeed said there is a growth of a third force in the country which is neither casteist nor communal.
He appealed to the intellectuals, professionals and traders to join the party.
Nayeema said it was a difficult decision to enter politics.
"Situation in the Valley is worsening at all levels. We need positive politics to find solutions to every problem the state faces," she said adding people have to come together and take the state towards peace and prosperity.
