Khandpur is a former director General of the Centre for Electronics Design and Technology and the Pushpa Gujral Science City in Kapurthala.
He has been selected for a national award this year by the central government's Department of Science and Technology for his contribution in the field of science, technology and communication, it said.
The award would be bestowed on him for steering the development of the Science City almost from scratch to an international-level centre, the release said.
He is also the founder director of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in Mohali.
Khandpur has served as a scientist for 24 years at the CSIO, Chandigarh, as head of the Medical Instruments Division and also as the head of the Electronics Division.
He has authored 10 books of international repute and is a holder of seven patents for innovative designs. Khandpur has published over 60 research and review papers, the release said.
