The work for the four laning of the strategically important BCT Road has been affected as local people are not allowing the Border Roads Organisation to work in West Kameng district due to non-finalisation of of land acquisition compensation issue, officials said on Monday.

The Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) is the lifeline for three Arunachal Pradesh districts - Tawang, West Kameng and East Kakeng.

Local people are not allowing the BRO to work in the widening and four laning of the Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) Road between Elephant and Sessa villages due to non- finalisation of land acquisition due to compensation issue, Tezpur-based Defence spokesman Lt Col Harsh Wardhan Pande said in a release on Monday quoting Project Vartak chief engineer.

Though compensation estimate was earlier given by the state administration and BRO was ready to make payment, but due to certain complaint received on the compensation estimate, revised estimate was asked from the Deputy Commissioner of Bomdila in July 2018 which has not yet been finalised, the release said.

The chief engineer had informed that the matter was discussed at higher level of the state administration to resolve the issue. However, the revised estimate could not be finalised yet.

The BRO is ready to make the payment immediately on receipt of estimate from DC Bomdila, it said.

The constructing agency has appealed to the villagers to allow the construction activities in the stretch of road to avoid delay in completion of the project.

The widening and double lane work on BCT road is presently under progress by the BRO, the release added.
