Godrej Agrovet (GAVL) today said it has taken up R&D projects at Nadir Godrej Centre for Animal Research & Development' (NGCARD) to improve livestock yields in the country.
(GAVL) is a subsidiary of Godrej Industries.
"NGCARD will focus on developing innovative methods to address the growing demand for protein rich diets. It will include finding value added alternative models that will result in reduced dependency on agricultural resources," Godrej Agrovet Managing Director Balram Yadav said in a release here.
Through innovative solutions in animal feed, NGCARD will aspire to bring down the cost of poultry meat, eggs and milk, it said.
Located at Ashewadi near Nashik (Maharashtra), NGCARD is one of the first private sector investments in the field of animal agriculture.
Research at NGCARD will be aligned towards developing innovative technologies and products that will enhance animal feed nutritionally, thereby improving productivity and efficiency of animal agriculture.
NGCARD is planning to adopt the approach of converting existing agricultural by-products into animal feed by value addition.
Animal feed is the single largest cost in the production of poultry meat, eggs and milk and this approach will help in reducing the cost.
