In a never before musical extravaganza for the city, celebrating different genres of western music, young and bright performers from music schools dished out their skill before the embassy envoys ranging from USIS Director and Italy Consul.
From Birla High School to Calcutta School of Music - the keen, enthusiastic and vivacious young talents dished out their stuff before a select panel of popular yet classy singers as the fare included an ecletic mix of bands, vocals, keyboard, guitar and piano, a spokesman from the organizers Academy for Music Excellence said.
Indian pop legend Usha Uthup said, "Having seen a lot of young musicians grow and groom in different branches in this very city. I can say Kolkata did have always such a culture. It's not something having popped up all of a sudden, but yes Yuva seeks to bring them under one platform in a more ribust manner."
"Henceforth Kolkata can be pitchforked before Shillong as the western music capital of the east. The city already did have a vibrant music culture, but that was all too isolationist. Didn't meet and converge to make it a confluence of music. Yuva, which translates into youth, is all about that," the Academy spokesman said.
Director of the Kolkata American Center, Joanne Joria, Cesare Bieller, Consul General of Italy, Kolkata, said it was an amazing experience to find the youngsters of the city have so much grown into world music despite their rootedness.
