In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home here after she failed twice in an exam, leaving behind a suicide note urging her parents to donate her organs.
Reema, a resident of north Delhi's Maurice Nagar area, could not clear the chemistry paper in the class XI examinations. She appeared again but could not secure pass marks which reportedly led to depression, a senior police official said.
The incident came to light on Tuesday evening when her relatives found her hanging from the ceiling and raised an alarm. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The suicide note was recovered from the spot.
"An inquest into the matter has been initiated under Section 174 CrPC," DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said.
A senior official said the girl did not blame anyone for the extreme step in her note but the exact reason could not be ascertained from its contents.
Reema urged her parents to donate her organs in the note and her eyes have already been donated.
During investigation, it emerged that 11 of Reema's relatives have signed organ donation papers. Her father is an employee in the Patel Chest Institute in the Delhi University Campus.
It was also found that Reema had some dispute with her sister but it could not be taken as the reason behind the suicide, police said. A day after the incident, Reema's traumatised parents also had to be admitted in a hospital.
