Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was today shot dead by security forces in a remote village of Meghalaya's North Garo Hills District.
The incident took place at Bangsi Minol village, senior police officers said.
"A GNLA deserter identified as Werang Sangma alias Teseng was shot dead by the Police and Army during an encounter," Inspector General of Police (IGP) G H P Raju told PTI here.
He said, one INSAS rifle with one magazine and live ammunitions was recovered from Sangma.
According to the police, Sangma was a close aide of Ajan Ch Momin alias Jimmy of Williamnagar command of the GNLA.
