'Gold bars' seized by DRI turn out to be made of copper, lead

The 52kg of 'gold' seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence from two persons here last month primarily consists of lead and copper and very little gold, according to a forensic report.
The report prepared by K J Golania of Directorate of Forensic Sciences was today placed before Additional Metropolitan Magistrate U M Bhatt.
The seized metal, which is in the form of bars, only has a coating of gold which is just 1.1 to 4.4 per cent of the total weight of each bar, the report says.
On April 26, the DRI had seized 52 kg of what it thought was gold from Surender Singh Dagar (39) of Delhi and Saurabh Sarjit Saharan (37) of Guragaon from a hotel here.

The duo are still in jail. Further hearing would be held tomorrow.
