Loosely based on T H White's novel of the same name, the animated version followed a 12-year-old orphan named Arthur who became king after removing a sword from an anvil in London, reported Variety.
Confirming the news, Cogman tweeted a picture of himself pulling "Sword in the Stone" at Disneyland with the caption "research".
Brigham Taylor, who became the exclusive producer of Disney last year will back the project.
Disney Studios is currently working on the live-action versions of "Beauty and the Beast," starring Emma Watson; "The Jungle Book", "Dumbo", "Winnie the Pooh" and "Tinker Bell," with Reese Witherspoon.
