Governor flouted Constitution, WB minister tells Assembly

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today slammed Governor K N Tripathi in the Assembly alleging that he had flouted the Constitution by writing a letter to a senior official in Malda district, bypassing the state government.
Making a special mention, Chatterjee told the House that the governor's post had been "tarnished".
"The governor has tarnished his post by writing a letter (to the official). It is against the Constitution. We condemn such action. We respect him as the constitutional head. But we will not accept such action under any circumstances," Chatterjee said in the West Bengal Assembly.
When contacted, the governor declined to comment on the issue but said he was keeping a watch on the developments.

"I don't want to make any comment on this issue. Whenever I have to say anything I will say it to the reporters. At present, I am just watching the developments," Tripathi told PTI.
TMC chief national spokesperson Derek O'Brien had alleged yesterday that the governor had written a letter to the divisional commissioner of Malda, directing him to convene a meeting on law and order and development schemes of the state and central governments in the district bordering Bangladesh.
O'Brien had said Tripathi could not act unilaterally and he should follow the rules and regulations laid down in the Constitution.

The TMC had also tried to raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha yesterday.
