A campaign has been launched by the government to promote Right to Information (RTI) Act through short informative programmes on radio and cinema halls.
As many as 105 radios have been engaged to air these short films.
"Radio channels are broadcasting short programmes on use of RTI to get useful public information related to school education, BPL card and panchayat matters," said an official in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), nodal authority for implementation of the RTI Act.
Two spots have been earmarked in radio channels for broadcasting of these informative audio films, he said.
The DoPT has also authorised about 429 cinema halls to screen RTI-related awareness movies, the official said.
These cinema hall, each of them with 625 seating capacity, are mainly in the Hindi heartland of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar among others, he said.
Cinema halls are showing short movies to provide information on filing RTI applications to get useful public information. People are also being made aware on various pro-people provisions of the RTI Act by telecasting these movies in the cinema halls, the official said.
These short films are of different durations ranging from 60 seconds to about two minutes, he said.
The RTI Act 2005 guarantees time bound information to an Indian citizen on matters of governance. A fee of Rs 10 is applicable for filing RTI applications.
