Govt seeks nominations for economic counsellor in Beijing

The Centre is looking for a government employee having knowledge of Mandarin language to be appointed as economic counsellor in Beijing.
"It is proposed to fill up the post of Counsellor (Economic) in the Economic Wing, Embassy of India, Beijing, China for a period of three years.
"Officers of the rank of Deputy Secretary or Director of the Government of India or equivalent level are eligible for the post," said an official memorandum issued by the Ministry of Personnel to selected central government ministries, who act as cadre controlling authorities for Group A services, and state governments seeking nominations of eligible candidates.

The officer should be below 54 years, clear from vigilance angle and should have "very good" service record. "However, preference will be given to officers who have 'Outstanding' service record," it said.
Besides, a nominated officer should have experience in the fields of trade, commerce, industry, finance, foreign investment, export promotion, international development cooperation at the Centre or in the state government or cadre.
Those officers having knowledge of Mandarin and experience of working in the Department of Economic Affairs would be given preference, it said.
India and China have set a target of USD 100 billion by 2015 for bilateral trade. However, in 2012, bilateral trade between India and China was USD 66 billion, a decline from over USD 74 billion in 2011.
