Information cannot be hidden in this age of social media which is hungry for facts, so the government agencies should ensure that details are speedily put out in public domain, Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said today.
"These are the days when Government cannot actually hide information. You have to put the information out," Rathore, who is the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, said at a book launch.
It is even said that "if you don't share, you die", he added.
The minister said that there are times when information on social media is not correct and the right thing for all government agencies is to put out factual information.
He emphasised that one area which should be focused on is for the government to put out information speedily.
Twitter is hungry for information, he said.
Rathore also said that the government has been holding workshops and training sessions for officers on how to use social media. The number of ministries and organisations which are active on social media is also increasing, he said.
Rathore said that the power of twitter, facebook etc is now such that news broadcasters also have to take them into consideration before deciding what they have to run.
He also said that a growing number of people are now consuming their news on moblies and often through social media.
Speaking about his own experience, Rathore said that at times when he goes through social media, some seniors remark that he is glued to it like a "teenager".
Rathore said that he tells them as an Information minister, it is one of the things that he has to do.
