Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday launched the Skill India mission, saying "we want to fulfil dreams of people and we want to do it in a structured way, taking the states together".

Speaking after launching the 'Skill India' mission on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Modi stressed upon giving impetus to entrepreneurship.

Observing that the Skill India mission "is aimed at fulfilling dreams", the prime minister said: "We want opportunities to increase. That is why we have not restricted ourselves to skills, we have focussed on entrepreneurship."

Talking about 'Skill India', Modi said: "This initiative is not merely to fill pockets but to bring a sense of self-confidence among the poor."

Government will bring in a legislation in Parliament to establish Skill Universities in every state, as a part of its efforts to create a large pool of skilled workforce in the country, Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said today.

"... Prime Minister had directed that to achieve this objective (skill development) we will have to set up Skill Universities and work with states to achieve the goal.

"We are confident that in the coming days we will bring in a legislation in Parliament to make an attempt to establish a Skill University in every state," Rudy said at a mega event to mark the first-ever World Youth Skills Day here.
