Govt to waive transmission charges for clean power

To give a push to clean energy projects in the country, the government has decided to waive transmission charges for electricity generated from renewable sources, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said today.
"We are bringing out a legal framework where all inter-state transmission of renewable energy will be at zero cost," New & Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said here.
"So renewable energy will not be charged any transmission charges across the country," he said.
The government, which has already sanctioned contracts worth Rs 38,000 crore through competitive bidding for green corridors, is identifying more such areas.
"I have already started with Rs 38,000 crore of green energy corridors. We are identifying more areas and are urging states to come with area where we can expand renewable energy so that more transmission grids can be made which the Central government is doing," he said.

The government had last month said that it is expecting an investment of Rs 36,000 crore in green energy corridors across the country.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Secretary Upendra Tripathi had also earlier said that the Ministry would shortly release Rs 1,074 crore to states of Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan for setting up of green energy corridors.
The government has set a target of 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022, which includes 100 GW of solar power, 60 GW of wind power, 10 GW of biomass-fired power and 5 GW of small hydro power.
