Grundfos Pumps India is working on a solar pump for domestic usage aiming at Indian semi-urban and rural markets, a top company official said today.
Grundfos Pumps India, is a subsidiary of Grundfos- one of the world's largest pump manufacturers.
Ranganath NK, managing director of Grundfos India, said currently the instrument is under field test and is expected to be ready for commercial launch during next year.
"We are building small solar pumps which is now under test. It works between 35 watts and 150 watts. We can have 250 watt panel. It is basically for domestic use in semi-urban and rural areas where power cuts are more. We are still working on the cost front. Because we are working on the prototypes," Ranganath told reporters.
He said the cost of the pump depends on the sales volumes and it cannot be predicted at this point of time.
"Our engineering team for local solutions has developed the pump here. We built ten prototypes. They are currently run on the actual conditions in different parts of India," he added.
On revenues, Ranganath said last year the Indian subsidiary clocked over Rs 380 crore while the global income stood at over USD 4 billion.
Denmark-based Grundfos main products include energy efficient pumps and smart pumping solutions for various applications such as heating and hot water service systems, cooling and air-conditioning systems and industrial applications.
