GSPCB to seek BITS' tech expertise on pollution issues

Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has joined hands with BITS Pilani's Goa campus to get the technical know-how for amplifying pollution control measures in the state.
The technical expertise from BITS Pilani would be gained through a MoU signed with them to ensure that anti-pollution steps taken by the Board are maximised, GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said today.
The board had signed a MoU with the institute on June 5 last year in the presence of then state Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
"Sometimes we have problems with the working of Sewerage Treatment Plants. They don't function optimally or are faulty. We will take up such problems with BITS seeking technical solution by joining our expertise with theirs," said Noronha in the presence of BITS Pilani Goa Campus Director K E Raman here.

Noronha said the MoU will help in applying new technologies in the sector of water and air pollution.
GSPCB will also think of developing indigenous technology to control and monitor pollution levels in the state, he said.
The pollution control board has given consent to more than 6,000 existing industrial units to operate in the state.
