Pakistan's experienced pace bowler, Umar Gul's departure for Australia to undergo surgery on his injured knee has been delayed due to visa problems.
The delay in his departure for Australia has dimmed chances of Gul recovering in time for the tour to Zimbabwe in July.
Sources close to the bowler who has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy due to his knee injury, said the visa problems had arisen because his passport had been sent to the UK High Commission with the rest of the players for the Champions Trophy.
"Gul was ruled out of Champions Trophy but his passport came back after a delay and resulted in loss of time to apply for the Australian visa," one source said.
Gul, who suffered the knee injury during the tour of South Africa which forced him to miss a Test and three one-day matches, has been advised to have surgery in Melbourne under the supervision of a specialist.
"He has been given a time of six to eight weeks to recover completely after his surgery which is being done to remove swelling and loose objects in his knee," the source said.
The source said that Gul was now most likely to leave for Australia on tomorrow night or Thursday.
"He was originally scheduled to have the surgery in first week of May," he added.
