Gurgaon announces mandatory Aadhaar cards for LPG connections

The Gurgaon administration today announced that Aadhaar cards are now mandatory for obtaining LPG cylinders in the district.
Making the announcement, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner T L Satyaprakash said that the orders have been sent to the LPG distributors in the district and they have been asked to ensure compliance in letter and spirit.
He said that time and again the district administration had been requesting the residents, especially the cooking gas consumers to get themselves enrolled for Aadhaar but the appeal did not evoke the desired response.
The administration had made arrangements for enrollment and it even purchased machines to meet the requirement, he said.

In a jolt to the Centre, the Supreme Court today refused to modify its interim order and allow bodies like RBI and SEBI and some states to allow voluntary use of Aadhaar card for welfare schemes other than the public distribution system (PDS) and LPG schemes.
The district has about 4,88,534 cooking gas consumers, out of which 2,79,376 have got their bank accounts linked with Aadhaar so that the amount of subsidy can be directly transferred to their account and there is no pilferage of subsidy.

About 2 lakh consumers still need to get their gas connections linked with Aadhaar, the Deputy Commissioner said.

He noted that the enforcement of these orders would help in checking the pilferage of LPG subsidy and also ensure that a consumer do not have multiple connections.
Satyaparakash appealed all those LPG consumers of the district who are not still enrolled for Aadhaar (UID), to get themselves enrolled at the earliest so as to continue with their LPG supply.
He said that the district administration has pressed into service about 60 enrollment machines for the purpose and if required, it is ready to deploy more machines but the aim is to get hundred per cent population enrolled for Aadhaar.

He said that one permanent enrollment center was working in the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Office premises and some machines were deployed at the Anganwari Centers to enroll the left out children.
The official added that special enrollment camps can be organized by RWA, members of Group Housing Society or staff of any company, where number of people to be enrolled is more.
Such people should contact the District Informatics Officer of National Informatics Centre (NIC) at second floor of local Mini Secretariat for organization of camps, he said.
