The unreserved ticketing system serves nearly two crore passengers for purchase of unreserved tickets daily through nearly 12,300 counters at 5864 locations and generating approximately Rs 59 crores of revenue per day for railways.
We are now providing hand held terminals (HHT) for unreserved tickets, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said in Mumbai while launching the scheme through video conferencing.
The HHT was launched at Nizamuddin station as a pilot project.
The HHT was announced in the budget also and the devices are expected to reduce queue length at booking windows and passengers need not stand in long queues.
