Haryana to re-engage retired teachers in schools

A policy to re-engage retired government teachers against leave vacancies has been introduced to makeup the "unavoidable" lack of teaching staff in schools, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said today.
Under this policy, a panel comprising retired teachers will be prepared every year, to the extent of 25 per cent of the sanctioned posts, in each category. This will ensure teachers are available in schools all through the year," he said here.
Sharma said although strenuous efforts are being made to fill up the vacancies of teachers of various categories through regular recruitment, yet for various reasons schools have shortage of teaching staff.

District Education Officers will prepare the panel of retired Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) of various subjects and District Elementary Education Officers shall do the same for Primary Teachers (PRTs) and Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), the minister said.
"Though the state is taking efforts to fill vacancies of teachers in different categories through regular recruitments, there remains a shortage of teaching staff for various reasons," the minister said.
"Retired teachers will be given a fixed remuneration as per the state government's re-employment policy and latest fixation of pay on re-employment of pensioners, including military pensioners, retired on or after attaining the age of 55 years," he said.

"To prepare the panels there will be 50 marks each for experience and results. Two marks for each completed year in service in the cadre up to a maximum 50 marks. However, the condition of a maximum 50 marks in case of experience does not apply for PRTs," he said.
"The same shall be calculated by multiplying percentage of results, up to two decimal multiplied by 10 and divided by 100. The marks shall be given up to two decimal," he said, adding experience will be counted only for the period in which the incumbent had taught the relevant subject.

In case of a tie in the merit, the incumbent younger in age will be preferred, he said, adding the integrity of the candidate should not have been doubted during service.
