Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal today asked civic authorities to expedite the process for mechanical sweeping of streets and ensure a proper policy for projects pertaining to redevelopment of markets.
The L-G held a meeting to review the functioning of the three municipal corporations and deliberated up on the need to improve cleanliness of roads. The municipal commissioners of the corporations were present in the meet.
The L-G asked the civic bodies to procure machines and expedite the process of mechanical sweeping of roads, his office said in a statement.
Baijal also emphasised that in projects of re-development of MCD and DDA markets, it should be ensured that a "proper policy" be made so that facilities like street furniture, parking, trash cans, maintenance of parks, visible signages, are provided.
The L-G stressed that responsibility should also be on the shopkeepers to keep their surroundings neat and clean, and encroachment-free, and the same should be explored for inclusion in the bye-laws of civic bodies.
SDMC Commissioner P K Goel said two mechanical sweeping machines have been hired for Dwarka, he said.
"Of 155 MCD and DDA markets in south Delhi, redevelopment of 41 of them have been completed. Street furniture on roads, markets and public places has been commissioned at 150 places," Goel said.
The NDMC informed that out of 251 open-air gyms, work on 77 have been completed. Work on street furniture on roads, markets and public places in north Delhi is being taken up for three locations.
The EDMC said redevelopment work of four MCD and DDA markets have started and 3,700 street furniture have been installed in markets and park benches.
The Lt. Governor also asked the civic bodies to work on developing "professionally paid parking lots" for the community.
Baijal reemphasised that areas under the flyovers should be beautified. He also asked to expedite installation of water ATMs in municipal areas.
