The Calcutta High Court today suggested to the CBI to sit across the table with the West Bengal government to resolve the issue of granting sanction to prosecute some senior police officers in the Nandigram police firing in 2007 that claimed 14 lives.
The CBI claimed before the high court that the state government had not yet given its nod and gave some conditions for grantion sanction to prosecute the officers who were allegedly involved in ordering the firing on protestors in East Midnapore district.
A division bench comprising Justice Asim Kumar Banerjee and Justice M K Chaudhuri told the CBI that it should sit with the state government and re solve the issue.
The bench directed the CBI to file a status report on the progress in the matter on September 17.
The high court had on March 15, a day after the firing on villagers, ordered the CBI to investigate it.
