The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking a direction to not print the photograph of Mahatma Gandhi on currency notes, terming it as frivolous.
It also imposed a cost of Rs.25,000 on the petitioner for filing such type of PIL.
A division bench of justice Dinesh Maheshwari and justice Rakesh Srivastava passed the order on a PIL filed by local lawyer Ashok Pandey.
According to the petitioner, he had sought a direction to print the photographs of great personalities of the country on currency notes in place of Mahatma Gandhi.
