Passing the order on the petition by IAS officer Pradeep Shukla, an accused in the NRHM scam, Justice Arun Tandon asked him to deposit Rs five lakh, instead of the amount stated by the CBI court at Ghaziabad, by May 24 next, the date fixed by the lower court.
Shukla was the Principal Secretary (Health) during the period when alleged irregularities had taken place in the welfare scheme aimed at providing health care benefits to people living in rural areas.
The court also asked CBI to file its counter-affidavit on the petition filed by Shukla who has submitted before the court that he did not have sufficient funds to be able to deposit the huge sum and that in two other cases relating to the scam, he has been granted bail on similar conditions and asked to deposit Rs 10 lakh each.
The court fixed May 25 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
