HC refuses anticipatory bail to cop in ponzi scam case

The Orissa High Court today refused to grant anticipatory bail to former Crime Branch DSP Pramod Kumar Panda, who had approached it to avoid arrest following searches of his house by CBI in connection with the ponzi scheme scam in the state.
The bail was refused by Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo after completion of hearing in the bail application.
The order, which was kept reserved last week, said the materials seized from the DSP's house could establish his links with the chit fund company Artha Tatwa.
Panda is currently working as a DSP in Nayagarh district intelligence bureau. While working as DSP, Crime Branch, which was earlier investigating the scam in the state, he had allgedly threatened petitioner Alok Jena and his wife of dire consequence for moving the Supreme Court seeking investigation into the chit fund scandal.
Subsequently, CBI search Panda's house here and seized certain documents.
