HC rejects bail plea of a murder accused

Karnataka High Court today dismissed the bail plea of one of the nine accused who allegedly burnt alive a ten year-old girl as revenge against her father, who threatened to lodge a complaint against them to the police.
Hearing a bail petition by the fifth accused in the case Ramesh, Justice H N Nagamohan Das rejected it after Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Doreraj objected to the bail plea.
The SPP submitted that the accused along with other eight persons had behaved in an "inhuman" manner and had allegedly murdered an innocent girl.
"The girl was in no way connected with the quarrel between the accused and the complainant," he stated.

Contending that the investigation was still on in the case, the SPP strongly opposed the bail submitting that the accused being released on bail would send a "wrong message" to the culprits who indulge in such heinous crimes.
A fifth standard student, was set afire by the nine accused while she was on her way to school last August.
