The incessant rains grew stronger yesterday causing widespread damage with power failure reported from several places. The Nethravati and Kumaradhara rivers in the region are overflowing and many of the bridges across them are submerged in water.
Water is flowing over the bridge connecting Kukke- Subrahmanya temple across Kumaradhara River disrupting the movement of vehicles on Subrahmanya-Mangalore State Highway, officials said.
Water has also entered many houses along the coast of rivers. The occupants of seven houses in the district had been shifted, officials said.
State Minister of forests, B Ramanath Rai instructed the revenue officials to take emergency measures to ensure the safety of people.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district authorities have declared holiday today for all educational institutions in the districts. Schools in the districts remained closed yesterday also.
