The person carrying the heroin had concealed them inside specially designed capsules which were found in his stomach. The man has been identified as Abdul Majid Malekzada, who is a native of Kabul, said DCP (Southeast) M S Randhawa.
According to the police, Malekzada went to a hospital on September 18, complaining about immense pain in his stomach. He had to be admitted and the doctors soon diagnosed the presence of 34 alien objects in his stomach, which took five days to be removed safely.
After the procedure was over, the alien objects, which turned out to be capsules with a white substance stored inside, were sent to an expert police team. The white substance was extracted - weighing around 240 grams in total - and sent for examination. It turned out to be heroin, said Randhawa.
A case under relevant sections of NDPS Act was registered and after Malekzade returned to his senses, yesterday, the police tried to quiz him about the source of the drug, the procurers, his address in Delhi and other vital questions.
In May, a 50-year-old Afghan-national, was found lying unconscious at a pavement in Lajpat Nagar. When rushed to a hospital, the doctors extracted 95 capsules from his stomach. The substance inside those capsules later turned out to be heroin worth around Rs 3 crore in the international market.
