NCP has decided to contest the polls together with Jan Surajya Shakti party. Of the total 81 seats in Kolhapur Muncipial Corporation, NCP will contest on 72 while Jan Surajya Shakti party on 8, it said in a statement issued here.
The Sharad Pawar-led party released first list of 33 candidates today.
Earlier, Shiv Sena had called off its alliance with the BJP in Kolhapur. The party has decided to go solo in the polls.
In the Kolhapur district, the Sena has six MLAs, while the BJP and the NCP have two each.
In Kolhapur city, the Shiv Sena won the Assembly seat defeating the BJP.
BJP had held its state executive meeting in Kolhapur earlier this year.
The party sees expanding its base in Kolhapur as an opportunity to grow in Western Maharashtra, long considered a bastion of the Congress-NCP.
