A 24-hour bandh sponsored by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today began without any untoward incident in Meghalaya's Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
The bandh is the first phase of general blockade called by the armed militant outfit demanding the state government to pass the two separate village administration bills passed by the Autonomous District Council of the Khasis and the Jaintias.
While the bandh begins at 8 pm tonight, the night road blockade will begin from tomorrow night till June 2, the outfit had stated.
Reacting on the bandh, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang warned that the police will take up case under Unlawful Activities (P) Act and Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order, Act against anyone found indulging in criminal acts during the bandh hours.
