Singh tried to pursuade the farmers to refrain from creating obstacles in the construction of the checkpost at Raxaul but apparently failed to mollify them, the sources said.
The Union Home Secretary later held a closed-door meeting with the local officials and discussed issues related to the checkpost construction, they said.
The farmers have prevented the construction of the checkpost over 235 acres of land at Raxaul since April demanding hike in compensation for acquisition of their land, sources said.
The farmers had raised demand for hike in compensation after East Champaran district administration carried out a fresh survey on 235 acre land acquired for the purpose.
