India are clubbed with Pakistan in the women's table tennis in Group A and the much-anticipated face-off between the arch-rivals will be preceded by their opening match against Maldives at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Sports Hall.
The top two teams from group A and B will advance into the semis in the seven-team competition.
In the men's section, India are clubbed with Nepal and Bangladesh in the three-team Group A and the Table Tennis team are quietly confident that they will make a clean sweep of the disciplines.
Manika Batra, Mouma Das, Pooja Sahasrabudhe, Shamini Kumaresan and Madhurika Patkar will lead the challenge in the women's table tennis.
India won all seven gold medals on offer at the last edition of the Games in 2010 at Dhaka and coach and former national champion Arup Basak feels they can repeat that performance.
"In table tennis we are going to get all the titles," Basak said today while his top players were warming up.
"We have in our team the current (women's) national champion Manika Batra and (men's) national champion Anthony Amalraj," he informed.
In badminton event, all eyes would be on two-time bronze medallist at World Championship P V Sindhu, Ruthvika Shivani, PC Thulasi and G Vrushali in absence of World No. 2 Saina Nehwal, who pulled out due to injury concerns, in the women's singles event at the SAI Campus in NEHU.
In the men's singles, Kidambi Srikanth will lead the Indian challenge sans P Kashyap, who is recovering from a abdominal strain. B Sai Praneeth, who replaced Kashyap, along with HS Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram will aim to repeat their 2010 Dhaka's feat of clinching all the seven gold medals.
"The Indian players have been a force to reckon with in recent times and we are confident of a clean sweep during the 12th South Asian Games," said Jwala, who currently holds the World No. 13 spot alongwith Ashwini.
"All the players are in form and we are excited about the upcoming clashes. Personally I have been feeling myself to be in good form and will play as per the game plan that I have put in place.
