I don't want to be typecast as a mother: Seema Biswas

Indian actress Seema Biswas, who shot to fame with her role as Phoolan Devi in the 1994 biopic "Bandit Queen", is looking forward to play varied roles on-screen.
Seema, 50, is playing a mother in her upcoming Singaporean film "A Yellow Bird", which she is currently shooting here.
But the actress said she is not keen on donning the family matriarch in most of her outings.
"I really liked the film's script and was on-board for it right after the first reading session. I am very happy to be a part of 'A Yellow Bird'. (But) I don't want to be typecast as a mother. I want to play challenging character roles," she told PTI.

"A Yellow Bird" is about an unwelcomed homecoming for a Singaporean-Indian ex-convict, haunted by a tragedy in his past as a contraband smuggler, as he is released after eight years of imprisonment.
Dejected by his mother's silence, he leaves home in search of his ex-wife and daughter, who do not want to be found.

It is directed by prominent filmmaker K Rajagopal, who has made a series of short film-focusing on the lives of Singaporean Indians. It is produced by Singapore-based Akanga Films.
The National Award-winning actress even applauded megastar Amitabh Bachchan for "Piku" and said she would like to portray such strong characters.

"'Piku' is one realistic film. It is hilarious. I like such kind of films.
