I have become half Indian: Liv Ullmann
Oscar winning sound designer Resul Pokutty has worked on her film and Ullmann says a gift from him gave her the Indian touch on arriving at Singapore.
"I am happy to be a part of this celebration of Indian films. My friend and our sound man Resul Pokutty got me this (dupatta) when I arrived here, I may have already become half Indian," Ullmann said today.
The 73-year-old actress, who has worked in 10 films by Bergman, said she has learnt the Indian way of giving and sharing.
"Once I was passing through Kolkata and it was raining. I saw a woman sitting by the side of a street with two kids by her side. She had covered herself and the kids with a shawl. She beckoned me, and there we sat, two women under the same shawl! That's what India is all about giving and sharing," said Ullmann.
She also praised Shabana Azmi, calling her a very "beautiful woman".
"When I had met her earlier she was wearing this beautiful dress and I admired it. Next day she gave it to me as a gift!"
Ullmann played a starring role in Bergman's classic "Autumn Sonata". Interestingly, Shabana has starred in the Hindi adaptation (Tehzeeb) of the same film.
Ullmann is often called Bergman's muse and has a daughter by the Swedish director, who is considered one of the best storytellers cinema ever had.
