The 56-year-old actor says people back then were not very familiar with the idea of sequels. Finally, 'Ghayal Returns' is in development and Sunny plans to begin shooting it by the end of this year.
"I liked the concept of 'Ghayal' and wanted to make a second part of the film but no director or producer was ready at that time. When we started making sequels, I thought 'Ghayal' should be the first film to have a second part because there was a scope to take the story forward," Sunny told PTI in an interview.
"We are working on it right now, Earlier we had some problem with the director and the script. But everything is sorted now. 'Ghayal' is such an iconic film and it's a big challenge to satisfy the audience again," Sunny said.
The 1990 hit saw Sunny and actress Meenakshi Seshadri in the lead. Though Sunny will reprise the character of Ajay Mehra in the film, the hunt for the lead actress is still on.
Meenakshi quit acting after 'Ghatak' and shifted to New York after marrying an investment banker.
