IGU to honour Aditi for Euro success

The Indian Golf Union President, Anil Seolekar today congratulated India's teenaged prodigy Aditi Ashok for becoming the first Indian ever to win a Qualifying School golf event on any International Tour.
He also added that the IGU will continue to expand its calendar and offer more opportunities for the Indian amateurs.
The 17-year-old Aditi Ashok (23-under) emerged a winner by three shots in the five round European Tour's Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Qualifier in Morocco. Her five rounds included a record-breaking 10-under 62 in the third round.
"It is a matter of great pride for Indian golf and the Indian Golf Union that Aditi has come out with flying colours. Aditi is the perfect example of IGU's policy of sending talented youngsters for international exposure," said Seolekar.

"This year itself Aditi won tournaments all over including the prestigious St. Rules Trophy and the Ladies British Amateur Open Stroke play and also the Thailand Amateur. We will also soon have a function to honour and celebrate her efforts in 2015.
"Over the past five years, since she first hit national headlines as a talented junior, she has been winning titles and representing India, including at events like the Asian Youth Games (2013), Youth Olympics (2014), Asian Games (2014)," added Seolekar, whose vision plan is to increase the number of events and players in junior golf.

Seolekar further said, "Our effort is to give the talented youngsters more opportunities. Currently we send Indian amateur teams to more than a dozen events around the world and this will increase further."

"All leading Indian golfers have from time to time benefitted from IGU's endeavor to send out teams for major amateur events, the efforts have now begun to bear fruit - this year we have seen Anirban Lahiri emerge as a global star and now we have Aditi Ashok. There are many who will emerge in the coming seasons."
Seolekar also noted, "We have also seen that many of our youngsters who have gone on golf scholarships are now coming back to India to represent their country and participate in National championships.
"Recently we had Priyanshu Singh, a 19-year-old studying in US, who came back to win the All India Amateurs, a 115-year-old event, which is one of the oldest in the world."

The IGU will soon release it calendar for 2016, which is being done in consultation with golfers, clubs and various and stake holders to ensure it gives maximum benefit to the players.
