Under the HRD Ministry's National Initiative for Design Innovation, with a funding of Rs 10 crore, the IIT will identify the technological problems, develop processes and make products through people's participation, a release said today.
It will also train artisans and entrepreneurs on established technologies through training, workshops and demonstrations.
"The Institute's primary goal is to develop design driven innovations pertaining to rural technology with the aim towards developmental and vocational support with opportunities in livelihood and entrepreneurship which can improve living conditions of rural people," it said.
Collaborations are also being forged with institutes and organizations in the areas of design and innovations.
