To resolve the incidents of transgression along India-China border in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army is focusing on infrastructure development, a top Army commander said today.
"We are focusing in Ladakh for infrastructural building and capability building (along the Sino-Indian border in Ladakh sector)," GOC-in-C Northern Command, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra told reporters here today.
The officer was here to attend concluding function of Investiture Ceremony held at Sangha Auditorium, Akhnoor border belt today.
"We have put a lot of efforts and our aim for the next year is to ensure that our infrastructure and capability building, including construction of road network and habitats come up so that we have a reasonable position there," the Army commander said.
He was replying to question about increasing transgression along borderline with China in Ladakh and measures being taken to deal with it.
"The LAC between India and China is not delineated. We have different opinion on several areas. However, most of the areas we know this is ours and that is theirs. It is those areas where transgression takes place, we have difference of opinion because of the perception of the borders on the two sides".
"We patrol up to our line of perception and they do so as per their line of perception and this causes transgression and when we have face-off. There are various grills and border mechanism put in place when we stop and we make each other understand about LAC," he said.
"There is peace and stability on the borders. I must assure you all wherever there is a transgression on the Line of Actual Control, there is difference of opinion on the LAC-- but we are patrolling up to what our perception is and they do as per their perception".
"There are border mechanism in place-- there are very clear and comprehensive border mechanism in place which are resolved by border contact meetings," he said.
"In October last year, during the prime minister's visit, another border defence agreement was signed with China which has further refined and provided resolution of border issues," he said.
