India, Pak should end hostilities for stable region: Tarigami

CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today asked India and Pakistan to end border hostilities and initiate a meaningful dialogue process for stability in the south Asian region.
"The leadership of both the countries should without losing any time, start a meaningful dialogue with total sincerity. The war hysteria and antagonistic rhetoric has proved counter-productive. Therefore the way out is to break the ice and move forward," Tarigami said at a party convention in Anantnag.
Tarigami said the present hostile environment in the sub-continent, which has the potential to undermine peace and add to the miseries of the common people, must change, and for that a new initiative is the need of the hour.

"It is in the interest of peace, security and welfare of the common people to immediately stop border hostilities and all other forms of confrontation," he said.
Tarigami said India and Pakistan, as two major countries of the region, have to adopt a sensible approach and realise that war or violence in any form, will not only be futile but will also destabilise the region. The brunt will be borne by the poor toiling masses and the under-privileged, he said.
"Domestic compulsions should not determine the nature of relationship between the people of India and Pakistan.Negative and short-sighted approach will lead to further escalation of hostilities and seriously harm peace in the region," he added.

The Communist leader said ignoring the "political essence of the Kashmir issue" by the Central Government and non-initiation of an unconditional dialogue with all shades of Kashmiri leadership is "unfortunate" and results in complicating the problem.

"The Chief Minister (Mehbooba Mufti) who came to power on the slogan of healing touch should immediately review Public Safety Act(PSA), release political prisoners especially the old, sick and the minors.
"In addition a comprehensive rehabilitation process should be initiated so that the victims of pellets, bullets and tear gas shells can get adequate and special treatment," he said.
Tarigami also called for a slew of relief measures for transporters, small businessmen, fruit growers, daily wage labourers and people associated with tourist industry so that they are compensated at the earliest.

The CPI(M) convention resolved to launch a consistent struggle in favour of addressing political aspirations of the people by Central and state governments.
It also appealed to the political leadership of India and Pakistan as also to the civil societies of both the countries to shun hostilities and urgently initiate a process of credible dialogue.
