The ad-hoc committee appointed by the IOA to run some affairs of Indian boxing owing to India's international termination today decided to request the International Boxing Association to provide at least two training trips for both men and women as they gear up for the Commonwealth and Asian Games this year.
"AIBA will be approached to provide at least two international training and competition programme before Asian Games for both men and women each," the committee's convener Rakesh Gupta said here.
The panel said that the women's team will be sent for Asian Championships as well as the World Championships in all 10 weight categories.
The committee also discussed the possibility of conducting the much-delayed National Championships for both men and women which have not taken place for the last two years.
"The dates for the Nationals would be worked out later. For now, it has been decided to conduct the National Championships after the Asian Games because there is no immediate slot available in the calendar," a member of the six-strong panel told PTI.
The committee, headed by veteran administrator Tarlochan Singh, also discussed the preparation of men's core group for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, which would be picked through trials at NIS Patiala from May 9-12.
"The ad-hoc Committee after discussion with national coaches has decided to request to AIBA to allow and provide international training programme before Commonwealth Games for the preparation of Indian team," Gupta stated.
The committee also thanked Sports Authority of India's Director General Jiji Thomson for providing the facilities for the ongoing CWG core group trials for women boxers.
After provisionally suspending the IBF on December 6, 2012, AIBA has not recognised any official activities and has not supported the Indian officials for more than 16 months now.
Besides, Singh and Narsi, the IOA ad-hoc committee comprises national coach G S Sandhu, Mehtab Singh, Rakesh Gupta and Kuldip Vats.
